WHAT IS IT?

No, sorry, this isn’t an UR Quattro, although you could be forgiven if at first glance, that’s what you thought it was. This is the car it was based on, the 80/4000 coupe. Think of it as kind of an upmarket MK 1 Scirocco, with angular good looks, and a cushy interior, and a roomy back seat and trunk. Yep, it’s a trunk/boot, not a hatch. For the era, it had decent performance, and good handling for a front-driver. Audi sold a good number of them, although first-gen cars like these are now quite scarce.

WHY THIS CAR HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS

Like so many of the cars we feature, none of the editors can remember the last time we saw one of these in the wild. This one is just astonishingly good in every respect. Shiny perfect Mars Red paint, a gorgeous tweed interior and uncracked dash, a gleaming engine bay complete with all decals. It’s all there. At a hair under thirty grand (or best offer), it’s not cheap, but as you’re by now sick of hearing from us, find another like it. Anywhere. It’s on offer at Motorcar Classics in Long Island, NY.
