WHAT IS IT?

The Renault Twingo was a throwback to the people’s car concept that brought the world the VW Beetle and the Citröen 2CV. Minimalist in the extreme, the Twingo worked equally well as a city car in Paris, or as someone’s village hack in Calvados. The MK 1 Twingo was stupid cute and much more fun to drive than its fifty or so horsepower would suggest, and since 2011, there’s been a single make racing series in France for MK 1 Twingos. This one happens to be the “big block” of Twingos with a 1200 cc engine that makes just shy of 60-horsepower.

WHY THIS CAR HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS

Like most cheap cars in Europe, MK1 Twingos were viewed as disposable after they lived a long and useful life. Great survivors are few and far between, and this one, with its gleaming metallic blue paint and perfect pop art Twingo script seats is all that. Would we have liked an engine compartment and underside shot? Well, yes, but our collective gut can spot a museum quality early 2000s minicar and this one certainly is. It’s for sale with a private party in Lucca, Italy for the equivalent of $10,600.
