WHAT IS IT?
The W123 Mercedes was the precursor to the E-Class, a mid-sized, platform offered in coupé, sedan and wagon body styles. They saw duty as everything from Frankfurt taxi cabs to dropping off kids at exclusive day schools like Sidwell Friends in suburban D.C. Produced when Mercedes build quality remained unquestioned, this one is in a more typical Euro spec, with cloth seats in place of MB-Tex, roll-up windows, and a bomb-proof M115 carbureted four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual transmission.
WHY THIS CAR HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS
W123s were built to run and last essentially forever. In the event of a high-altitude nuclear detonation that results in an EMP, this is what you want to be fleeing in. Consequently, most of them have well over 200,000 miles on them. This example shows just over 63,000 miles on it and literally every surface is immaculate. While it’s a late production W123, it still wears its 70s style steel wheels and color-keyed hubcaps. Although not cheap at around $35,000, it’s not an unreasonable price to pay for what might be one of the best cars ever built. It’s on sale at a dealer in The NetherlandsÂ
