WHAT IS IT?
The BMW M Coupe was manufactured from 1998 to 2002 as a variant of the Z3 M Roadster. The addition of a solid roof increased structural and torsional rigidity to the chassis. If you cannot recall advertising for the Z3 Coupe, you’re not alone. BMW feared competing with the popular and more profitable E46 M3, so nearly no marketing budget was provided for the Coupe. North America saw two engine options for the M Coupe through its 5-year production. The earlier cars (2,180 NA-spec produced) received the S52 engine, while the later cars were fitted with the S54 engine (678 NA-spec produced). This example, sold late last year on Bring A Trailer for $67,000 with only 2,100 miles on the clock.

Bought on BAT in December 2024. This is really the rare time capsule with 2141 miles in December 2024 and now 2345 miles in May 2025. Since the purchase it was shipped in a closed container to Kelowna, Canada, been inspected for importation and had a major service. Service details are on the free Car Fax in the December BAT listing.
Service included 4 new tires, new battery, fuel/ combustion cleaning and service, all fluids drained and replaced, including brakes, radiator, oil, transmission, etc. New plugs, ignition coils, and tuneup. Bushings replaced. All new belts and hoses. Drained and cleaned gas tank and fuel lines, etc. In short, after a little over 2100 miles in its life, this clownshoe is really ready for driving fun. This will not be a pickled museum piece, but now ready for show and road trips. A little anal and over the top in post purchase servicing, but a great investment for future road trips. Flawless inside…like new. Not a mark on the paint or rims. Now super protected on the exterior with an XPEL ceramic-infused paint protection film applied over the entire car in January 2025.

I’m a huge fan of ALL M cars….but this in particular is much more rare and looking at it’s styling just makes you wanna ‘go’ — Loving on the interior too…and since that’s the part you ‘live in” it’s another rarity creating excitement within — I’m into it… Glad to see this submission – now when can I drive it?? 🙂 🙂 🙂
It’s an embarrassment of riches in the Z3 M Coupe world at the moment. I’m a huge fan of silver and Imola Red, I think it’s the best spec for the clownshoe. Just ask photographer Michael Alan Ross who dailies one. Since is a 1999 and not a 2000 like the black one, I think we can take the easy way out here and say their both the Best on the Planet for their respective years.
This is stunning! I’ve always WANTED one of these!! Only thing that could make it better is a Euro Spec, but the rarity of the ’99 could overshadow that…. one way or another… the want is STRONG!
It is nearly a shame that this only has 2345 miles. They are such fun to drive. But there are plenty that have been well used and loved over the years. The style can be polarizing, but I like anything that is “different”. Kudos to BMW for daring. These are the cars that now stand out. Oh and red guts works on EVERY car.
Amazing example, as was mentioned, reference library material. Hard to imagine a better one on the planet.
