WHAT IS IT?
In the 1970’s and 80’s, Bentley seemed to be a shadow of its former self. As a sub brand of Rolls-Royce, it was but a slightly re-trimmed version of the Silver Spirit… a far cry from the legendary pre-war “Bentley Boys” super cars they once were. Then they introduced the Turbo R in the mid-1980’s birthing a legend and reviving a brand. Exceedingly expensive, nearly $200,000 in 1980’s money, the Turbo R featured improved handling and turbo power allowing for a 0-60 time in the low 6-second range, still compelling today but mind-blowing in 1985 especially considering this was a 5,400 lb luxury car.
WHY THIS CAR HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS
The survival rate for Turbo Rs is relatively high given the pampered lived most of them lived in their day. However, survival and modern drivability aren’t always well correlated. This car was reportedly a one-owner vehicle until the current seller, online automotive personality Matt Farah, purchased it two years ago. Since then, he’s done a number of videos outlining his experiences and perhaps more importantly, his seemingly bottomless budget for repairs and maintenance. This car, like many Bentleys of this era, sat barely used for years. Low-mile exotics may seem like a great buy but often require substantial reconditioning if one wishes to drive them. This example does have a few minor modifications but they are reversable. The most visible changes are yellow driving lights and a modern stereo. Otherwise, it looks correct and sports its original graphite gray paint. The original black leather and walnut interior appears immaculate and inviting.
