WHAT IS IT?
The E23 generation was the Ur 7-Series. It replaced the E3 sedan in 1976 and was an altogether more luxurious car that now aspired to challenge the S-class Mercedes. Large, understated, handsome (although the U.S. bumpers did somewhat disfigure the car), it was available with a manual transmission, unusual for a big luxury sedan, but fully in keeping with the “Ultimate Driving Machine” tagline.
WHY THIS CAR HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS
This 49,000 mile car simply exudes good care from every pore. The engine compartment is clean and lovely, only the worn insulation pad lets the presentation down a bit. The red leather and wood interior is simply stunning. The carpets and dash appear as new, and the Blaupunkt cassette deck is original and the instruction manual for it is included with the car’s paperwork. The Alpenweiß paint gleams and the trunk looks like its never carried anything in it beyond an occasional sack of groceries. The lovely and comprehensive BMW tool kit is complete down to the spare bulbs. It’s being offered for sale at a very reasonable $17,853 in Sioux Falls, SD And since this one’s been in the dealer’s inventory for a while now, we’d wager that they’re open for offers.

This is truly a lovely car, and in great colors. As much as I love them, E23s didn’t hold up as well as a W116 Benz, so it’s rare to see them this nice. As the description says, only the worn hood pad lets the car down, I wish the dealer had replaced it prior to offering the car for sale. They’re still available and only about $100. As for its Best One status, I’d like to see some underside shots first, but based on what’s here, I think it’s a strong contender.
