WHAT IS IT?
The Lincoln Mark VII LSC (Luxury Sport Coupe) was offered from 1984 to 1992 and was the sporty version of the Fox-body-based rear-wheel-drive Lincoln sport coupe. Equipped with the now legendary 5.0L V8 from the Mustang GT, this car offered more space and luxury than the Mustang. The option also provided an improved sport-tuned suspension, sportier seats, tire/wheels, and different exterior trim than the usual luxury trim on the Mark VII. Of note, the Mark VII was the first American car to include anti-lock brakes starting with the 1985 model year.
Sporty coupes are rare these days, but in the 1980s they were considered aspirational, offering a sporty appearance with luxurious details. Alas, those buyers now gravitate toward crossover utility vehicles, but the Mark VII faced competition from other American brands like the Cadillac Eldorado, Buick Riviera, the Oldsmobile (RIP) Toronado but also the Mercedes 560 SEC, the 6-series BMW, and, toward the end of the decade, some Japanese upstart luxury brands like Acura and Lexus.
Contemporary magazine reviews, like this one from Car and Driver, were generally positive about the LSC. Modern reviewers have a funnier take on the LSC, like this one from Regular Car Reviews.
WHY THIS ONE HAS “BEST ONE ON THE PLANET” CHOPS
Showing only 17,000 original miles, shiny paint, and a seemingly near-perfect leather interior, this appears to be a rare beast indeed. Oddly, the body sports the LSC badges, wheels, and fog lights, but the front seats appear to be from a “lesser” Mark VII. Perhaps a Lincoln expert could weigh in? Photos and description are lacking in typical Craigslist fashion and the asking price of $24,900 seems as aspirational as the car did in its day, but in usual TBOOTP style, try to find another.
