WHAT IS IT?
The Porsche 924 was first production water-cooled front-engine Porsche model introduced as an entry-level model in their lineup in the mid 1970s. It effectively replaced the mid-engine 4-cylinder 914 (thought that was replaced by the one-year-only 912E in 1976). Anyway, we could go on about entry-level Porsches and their relatively unloved position in the pecking order among Porsche fans. 4-cylinder 914s were throw-away cars until their recent price jump that followed other air-cooled models. Early Boxsters have had a similar fate and are still relatively affordable despite their position as the financial savior of the Porsche brand and their inherently great driving dynamics.
While the 924’s transaxle successor, the 944 and it’s various iterations have already risen in value, early 924s like this one haven’t been worth enough to restore for reasons other than love and personal passion. As a result, Audi-powered early 924s in terrific survivor condition are exceedingly rare to find in the wild.
WHY THIS ONE HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS
This 1979 Porsche 924, listed on Facebook under the Low Miles No Miles group, is a two-owner survivor. Current owner, Art Mason, purchased it 20 years ago, and has maintained the car since. About 10 years ago, Art had the hood repainted, as he puts it “No story here, I just felt like it needed it to be done!”
The car has been featured in Hemmings Sports and Exotics magazine, and has multiple Concours awards as well as Porsche Club of America National Preservation class wins. Art states all documentation from delivery have been well maintained, and are included in the sale. Additionally, the listing shows the car with the original 14″ wheels, but the buyer will also receive the optional for 1979 15″ ATS wheels. The car is located in Eastern PA, and for sale at $16,900.

I have in fact seen this car on multiple occasions and I can attest to the fact that it is INSANELY nice. Frankly, it’s as good as the Signal Green 924 at the Porsche museum in Zuffenhausen. It’s that nice. It has my vote.
Of course I love all things Porsche. But this 924, with its quintessential 70s Mocha Brown color is perfection.
I’m all in with this beauty- couldn’t have been a better colour! Hard to believe that TB924OTP is only $16,900.00
