WHAT IS IT?
Oldsmobiles new flagship Aurora was launched in 1995 and replaced the two-door Toronado. The new styling language, arguably the most forward-thinking of all of GM’s divisions, would be applied to lesser models over the next few years.
The model also introduced a new 4.0 liter 32-valve transversely-mounted V8, a variation on Cadillac’s 4.6 liter Northstar. While down on power a bit compared to the luxury nameplate’s it retained its smooth and revvy nature and produced 250 hp, quite good for the time in non-luxury brand sedan.
Alas, the excellent product line that Oldsmobile would produce using this styling wasn’t enough to prevent the brand’s demise in 2004.
WHY THIS ONE HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS
This is a first-generation Aurora with the best styling of the two (a second generation was introduced for the 2001 model year and offered a V6 option in addition to the V8). Claimed to have only 16,500 miles from new, it certainly looks to be an incredibly well-preserved example with nary a wrinkle or chip to be seen.
Champagne gold was the model’s signature color, it seems, and the creamy leather interior still looks modern and inviting today.
Oldsmobile had a strong following over the decades and while the Aurora may not have the allure of a muscular 442 or personal luxury coupe Toronado, it was a highlight in GM’s lineup of the late 1990s and finding an example this well preserved on Facebook is a real pleasure.

I remember working on these back in my car audio days. An absolute electrical nightmare. It’s impressive to see one still on the road without every light blinking “Help Me” in Morse code!
