WHAT IS IT?

The E30 3-series marked the first generation of BMW’s bread and butter car to branch out beyond the traditional two-door, coupe bodystyle. All markets got the four-door sedan, but only Europe was lucky enough to savor the very lovely long-roof E30. They’re showing up in the U.S. and Canada in every-increasing numbers under those countries’ respective 25 and 15 year rules. Most however tend to be pensioner-spec 1.6 and 1.8-liter cars. It’s truly rare to see a 6-cylinder with the comparatively rare AWD X-Drive.

WHY THIS CAR HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS

This gleaming Alpenweiß example shows the equivalent of just 39,000 miles on the odometer and it looks like it could easily be half that. Optioned like a practical Bavarian might, it has cloth seats and crank windows, something you just wouldn’t see in the U.S. where leather and electric windows were profitable options, the car is simply beyond reproach. It does have a sunroof and A/C, both highly desirable. The underside is certainly consistent with everything topside, although a dry-ice blast would likely bump things up to a level commensurate with the price of this car.  All of this near-perfection is truly head-scratching given the fact that most people who ordered a pricey AWD car in the 80s used it during the winter, something this car has clearly never seen. We love the car and the spec, the price on the other hand clearly reflects the rarity of the car, the equivalent of $54,400, a flex ask to be sure. But as they say, find another. It’s on sale in the Netherlands at Oldenzaal Classics.
