WHAT IS IT?
The Renault 5 was the company’s stylish small entry-level hatchback offering from 1972 to 1996 and was the best-selling car in France for most of the 1970s. It also achieved some racing success, and there was even a high-performance variant called the R5 Turbo, which was (very roughly) based on the platform. It was marketed in the United States as the “Le Car,” playing on its French heritage, from 1976 to 1983. However, sales success in the US was limited even after an alliance with American Motors expanded the brand’s dealer network substantially.
WHY THIS ONE HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS
This car for sale on eBay Motors is far from perfect, but is still likely one of the best examples still driving in the United States. How long has it been since you saw another? It also seems incredibly original and has only around 48,000 original miles. It’s from the last model year offered in the U.S., has a manual transmission, a cool, large cloth sunroof, and even claims to have working air conditioning. The body looks to be straight, rust-free, and the original badging and decals are still in place. The interior plastics show some wear but the seats appear to be in fantastic shape and, let’s be honest, those interior plastics likely started to deteriorate shortly after the car left the American Motors dealer’s lot. For added fun, this very car was the subject of a driving review by YouTuber Shooting Cars a few years ago. Cheap, cheerful, rare, and a sure attention-getter at Cars and Coffee or RADwood, all for an asking price equivalent to new brakes on a supercar, is worthy of nomination.

Designer Michel Boue knew what he was doing with the Renault 5 in the 70s before his passing shortly after its release. And darn are these fun to drive! Loving the look of this 80s beauty, especially with its colour set, but wishing ‘the car’ had more pics, especially of the interior.
Calling Jamie Kitman on this. Octane Film Rentals NEEDS this car.
I have a huge soft spot for these kinds of cars- what was once simple, economical transportation is now super rare to find in excellent condition like this!
