WHAT IS IT?

The MK 4 Golf was one of the most popular Golf platforms built worldwide. An evolution of the MK3 rather than a clean-sheet design, it was both refined and poised with its 1.8-liter turbo engine being surprisingly smooth. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic GTI, VW produced just 4,000 of these cars for the U.S. in Black Magic Pearl, Jazz Blue and Imola Yellow. Just 1,000 were produced in what is regarded by enthusiasts as the best color–Imola Yellow.

WHY THIS CAR HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS

GTIs tend to live hard lives, suffering from the third and fourth owner syndromes. They’re the people who buy at the bottom of the depreciation curve, and typically don’t have the money to maintain the cars that previous owners did. It’s hard enough to find any Imola Yellow 20th Anniversary GTI in any condition, let alone that of this 89,850 mile example. In yet another illustration of the fact that a BOOTP car doesn’t have to have freakishly low miles, we can find little to fault hear except for a few sun-shrunk weatherstripping pieces. The interior, and engine compartment are immaculate and the underside looks like it’s been dry-ice blasted, or maybe it’s just that nice.  The seller has even provided paint meter samples showing that the car likely has most of its original paint. This one’s available for sale on Hagerty Marketplace for $18,500. It’s tough to imagine finding a better GTI of this spec.

Only 1,000 Imola Yellow 20th Anniversary GTIs were made for the U.S. this one looks like it just rolled out of a VW showroom in 2003. The engine bay, interior, and even the undercarriage are immaculate to say the least! It’s almost hard to believe it has nearly 90k miles. For a GTI this one is a time capsule and a dream spec. This absolutely a contender for The Best One on The Planet!
