WHAT IS IT?

The first-generation Honda S2000 (aka, the AP1) was made from the 1999 to 2003 model years. This was a departure for the brand in modern times but celebrated their history as well. Honda had never sold a real roadster (rear wheel drive two-seat convertible) in the US but the S600 was sold in other markets in the 1960s. The S2000 was a far larger, more powerful, and modern interpretation of that S600 but followed much of the same philosophy, a high-revving small engine being the key differentiator. In fact, the normally aspirated 2.0-liter inline 4 cylinder in the AP1 S2000 produced 240 horsepower and revved to nearly 9,000 rpm and, remarkably, reportedly did this reliably. The minimalist interior and sharp handling only helped cement the model as a purists driving car. The dashboard had all of the controls clustered around the driver’s binnacle and even the stereo was hidden behind a cover to accentuate that feeling.

WHY THIS ONE HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS

S2000s have been collectible and highly regarded for years, though in their day many complained about the peaky engine. As a result, the second generation offered a slightly larger 4-cylinder with a lower redline but torque earlier in the rev range. But we digress… The AP1 is the one to have from a purity standpoint and a factory-original unmodified example is even better and harder to find. This one sports striking Suzuka Blue paint and a blue interior that shows only minimal use. At just under 30,000 miles it appears to be well-maintained, well-loved, and well-documented with a pickled and unused set of extra keys thrown in just for giggles.
