    WHAT IS IT

The second-generation or FC RX-7 seems to be the forgotten one, often dismissed as a rotary-powered Porsche 944 copy. For whatever reason, you also seem to see fewer great examples of the second-gen car, which is odd, since it outsold the original by about 5 to 1.  Derivative though they may be FC RX-7s with their lively/revy 13B, rack-and-pinion steering and IRS were fun to drive, until the apex seals inevitably wore out.

WHY THIS ONE HAS BEST ONE ON THE PLANET CHOPS

RX-7s became cheap really fast, the novelty of the rotary engine scared off a lot of potential owners, and a great many of these went off to the scrap heap. This GXL, which was the luxury trim generally with leather and lots of power options, is astonishingly well-preserved. The engine compartment presents essentially as new, as does the draped leather interior.  The underside shows just the faintest surface corrosion on the exhaust, and the factory applied sound-deadening appears intact. There’s no sign of fade to the Blaze Red paint, all commensurate to the paltry 19,000 miles that this car has done. While a Turbo 2 spec might be more exciting, we’ve never seen one as nice as this.
